Six Things To Brighten Your Short Week

It's Tuesday but it feels like Monday so basically it's already Friday

1. This song, which my 8 year old sang along with immediately when it came on the radio this weekend, despite not having heard it before. When I hear this song, I am at summer camp, listening to the Pretty Woman soundtrack in my Walkman. It’s still an absolute banger.

2. Anything Hetty tells me to cook.

When I say ‘tells me,’ mostly I mean ‘publishes recipes in the NYT or her cookbooks or her newsletter.’ Tomato, tomahto! The truth is, THEE Hetty Lui McKinnon is so nice that if I asked her to tell me what to cook a few times a week, she probably would. Here is one of her recipes that we make all the time. It takes about 20 minutes and I eat the leftovers for lunch the next day and enjoy it just as much. I’ve posted this one before but given how often I cook this, so what? If it’s new to you, then I’m doing a service.

3. My new dress from Blockshop

I know the Stockman sisters didn’t literally make this dress just for me but I think they kind of did. It’s orange and stripey and has pockets and it’s my new favorite item of clothing, apologies to everything else in my closet.

4. Curtis Sittenfeld’s new story collection, Show Don’t Tell. Okay, I’m sorry, because it’s not actually out until February, but you can preorder it now. Here’s the thing about Curtis: you know her for her novels but she is the only short story writer whose stories I actually LUNGE for. If you’ve only read her novels, do yourself a MASSIVE favor and pre-order this baby. The stories are so smart and so funny and so real and every single one is incredible. You won’t be sorry. Trust me!

5. Dr. Odyssey

If you’re a Pacey girl (is there another kind of girl? Obvs not bound by gender in ANY way), then you should be watching this absolutely bananas show. Philippa Soo is ELEVATING this material with her every breath. Don Johnson is aging like, well, exactly the way you think Don Johnson would age, which is to say, elegantly, with assistance. In the first episode, someone breaks his penis. It’s perfect.

6. Making sure you are registered to vote. Let’s all do this, people. I am planning to vote early, because I think it’ll make me less anxious. What about you?
