Thursday was a long one—emotional and exhilarating and exhausting. On Friday, we had two more schools, one more visit to a bookstore, and then had to hustle to the airport to come home.
There is a good cake page in Gaga Mistake Day, and there are several cakes in our slideshow. One school we went to had this fabulous art on display—lemon cake, chocolate cake, Taylor Swift cake. I would hang any of these on my wall.
This is Lisa, who owns Books + Company in Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc is one of my favorite place names in Wisconsin. The store was HUGE and WONDERFUL and I just loved talking to Lisa about bookstore life.
Then we went to our very last school of the trip, which had a gigantic slide in the middle of the central lobby, which for some reason I failed to photograph. Imagine a giant slide here.
Then we sped off to the airport and got on a small plane and flew home. I finished my friend Glynnis MacNicol’s new book I’m Mostly Here to Enjoy Myself which is about Glynnis spending some delicious sybaritic months in France and it made me want to book a flight and buy some wine and cheese and rent a bike and ride around the city. If you’re curious about what dating apps are like in Paris, you will be INTERESTED.
Above is a photograph of my mother’s suitcase. Is it the suitcase that she took off the gate-check shelf and put in the trunk of our taxicab? It is not. The suitcase that she took belonged to a gentleman named Mark, and I don’t think Mark went into his flight from Milwaukee expecting it to end with a Gaga Mistake Day. Poor Mark! The bags were swapped back. Maybe we should send him a copy of the book.
When I got home, three smiling faces were waiting for me, and so was this cake.
It was delicious.
Thanks for following along on our travels! We will be on the Today Show on Monday, hanging with our homies Jenna and Hoda, if you care to tune in. We will be wearing our matching outfits, obviously.
I have a photo of the slide, and I'd like to hear Mark's side of the story! 😆
GUGGENCAKE! that is fabulous
