Hi hi.
This week, my 8yr old tested positive for Covid. It’s the first positive test in our family, which feels miraculous. We are all vaccinated, and the grown-ups are all boosted, and he is totally asymptomatic, which makes the whole thing feel…fine? It feels like March 2020 only not terrifying, and with only one kid. Here’s our plan for the day.
So far, we have made flip books and he got to watch a hour of flip book videos on You Tube while I had therapy. My little mom corner might look sad, but it’s not, I swear! This newsletter is on it! So I’m going to get to check that off! And if you want to write to Three Lives too, to say hip hip hooray on moving back into their normal space after the building renovations, you can! They deserve a deluge of love notes. Claire is my publicist and also the love of my life. Ah, I forgot to put Wordle on here! I will also do my Wordle. A very full day, as you can see.
When I think about the spring of 2020, or look at photos, I am amazed by how much we were doing, how good some of my parenting was while in a state of total fear 24/7. You remember! That shit was terrible! One of the highlights of that time was Mac and Shawn’s Live Cartoons, a tiny little puddle of joy and happiness. Did you watch their cartoons? It’s not too late to join the party. They have a graphic novel version coming out soon, and we’re doing a preorder for it at the store (their editor is a former Book Are Magic bookseller! Shoutout to the incredible Mabel!) and it’s total perfection. Also, sorry to Mac and Shawn (they already know this part), but because their amazing output and energy was there for me in such a scary moment, and yoked to our collective trauma, I would literally die for either of them. Rob a bank. Do a hit on any of their enemies. Forever. Just call me, boys!
Ok! Back to our very busy schedule. Up next: gin rummy with a side of the From the Mixed Up Files audiobook.
As always, you can pre-order This Time Tomorrow here.
Please leave any and all indoor activity suggestions in the comments.
What I’m Reading:
My friend Jasmine Guillory’s new romance novel, By The Book, is out in May and is exactly what I need. It’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and it’s funny and sexy and the characters always have seconds of their meals, which isn’t something that I knew I wanted or needed, but it is! You’ll love it.
You can never go wrong with some fort building. Also some “spa” stuff like face masks, cucumbers on the eyes, if your kiddos are into it. And I love doing puzzles and playing board games with kids. Good luck!!
