As an over-sharer, I find it very hard not to over-share. But sometimes one must keep things a bit close to the vest. I’m setting off on a research adventure, and am going to try my best to keep it off the internet for now. Don’t you worry, it will come! But for the time being, here I am, about to embark, in my genuinely enormous hat.
What I will tell you is my book packing list: Adelle Waldman’s Help Wanted, Charles Portis’s True Grit, Nathan Hill’s Wellness (on audio, that shit is HEAVY), Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club, and In the Pleasure Groove by Duran Duran’s John Taylor.
Otherwise, I’m excited and nervous and pretty sure I packed all the wrong things, except for the books mentioned above. Someone is absolutely BLASTING Meat Loaf’s I’ll Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That) which honestly seems like a pretty good sign.
Wish me luck!
(p.s. Wow, this video holds up a thousand percent, incredible work, Meat Loaf. Also, who else watched the TV movie Meat Loaf biopic? Epic stuff.)
Man, that music video is epic!
Excelsior, Emma! If you feel like triple-dipping the well of power-ballad video magnificence to rev your motor for the journey ahead, I suggest pairing Meatloaf with an insouciant "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (written for a musical about vampires! Careful, if you say "turn around, Fry Guy" once you might think about McDonald's forever!) and a drizzle of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" (also available in 'Loaf form but perfected the first time by Celine, my queen; motorcycle ghost boyfriends, watch out).
