If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t believe in participation trophies, you should just leave now, because you’re not going to like this. If, on the other hand, you think life is hard and we should get all the happiness we can have, please proceed. I honestly hesitate to write this post because this is something that brings such pleasure to my life and the element of surprise is a good one, but on the other hand, I don’t want to keep you from also having this joy in your life, so here goes.
I love making trophies. I make trophies for my children, for my husband, for my friends. I really only need the slightest excuse. Who doesn’t want a trophy? Here are some trophies scattered around my house.
This was for my older son’s 4th birthday. He doesn’t care about bugs anymore, but whew boy he sure did then.
For my younger son. Is he really? He is.
Here’s one I made for my husband. Now it’s 22 years.
Last week, I did my friend a very small favor, a favor I would have done just for the enjoyment of it, and he thanked me with this trophy, because I made one for him last year. (Most Pizza Parties, I believe his said.) (The favor was interviewing him about his new record, which is wonderful, and you should listen to it here!)
When I was walking home, holding this chonky beast, I ran into my friend Gina, and told her what it was, and about my trophy proclivities, and she made one that very day to encourage her children to clean their rooms. Another friend was jealous that no one had ever made a trophy for his podcast (even though he has an Oscar and a Grammy, #friendbrag), so I made him one, too. You see? There are always reasons to make trophies. Here’s where you do it. It is so cheap and offers instant, lasting joy. You’re welcome!
Best Thing Ever! Totally doing this too.
This is so great. My brother absolutely needs ridiculous, but meaningful trophies for his kids and himself. We are doing this TODAY! 😂
