Hi friends,
It’s still January? It’s still January. This week I am hosting a Buzz Books Panel, chatting up Tom Perrotta for booksellers, chatting up Antoine Wilson at the bookstore, doing interviews for the events position at the bookstore, making sure my kids get to the right places on time, you know, all of it. This week feels like trying to fit my pre-2020 life into my 2022 brain, and my 2022 brain is like, excuse me? No thank you. I’m just trying to limp to Friday.
The other thing that I’m doing nowadays is signing many, many, many pieces of paper. These are tip-in sheets, which means that I sign them, send them back to the printer, and then these get bound up in the book. Which means the books will be signed and I don’t have to go to the PRH warehouse. (I would actually LOVE to go to the PRH warehouse. Warehouse, call me! I’ll come!) I did about a hundred of them last night, which means I only have about 9,900 to go! If you pre-order This Time Tomorrow from an indie bookstore, your book should have one of these babies.
Here are the things that are keeping me upright, entertained, and happy this week.
-Who Weekly. Lindsay Bobby, I don’t know how you do it, but I’m so glad you do. I listen to every episode, even the Patreon extras. An absolute joy, every single time. I love knowing what Rita Ora is up to this week and every week.
-You’re Wrong About, the Tom Cruise and Oprah episode, with Willa Paskin. A very smart hour on celebrity, the internet, and the power of Oprah. It made me want to crawl under a rock, but then instead I wrote this newsletter? Which is me sharing my personal thoughts and feelings for no reason? It’s confusing, being a person. The saddest takeaway is that the reaction to this moment is likely what kept the world from getting more Weird Tom Cruise roles, like Magnolia. And that’s too bad! (Also, though, can you imagine putting your shoes on Oprah’s furniture?? I would sooner flub my bow at Buckingham Palace.)
-These Birkenstocks are my new favorite things in the world. They feel like slippers, look like clogs, and why would I ever want to wear anything other than slogs? #sloglife
-Chocolate pudding. I made this Deb joint last week, and my children loved it so much that I made it again this week. (It’s for the children.)
-Wordle. I love that it’s once a day, and so short, and that I can never think of a single five letter word. I’ve only flunked once so far, but win lose or draw, I sure do love to play.
Next week, I’m posting another Exciting Celebrity Author video. I did not trap this one in the bookstore basement. We sat outside! It was very civilized. Romantic, even! (That’s a hint.)
