Melt the ICE
A few things to do
Make your 5 calls. It’s so easy. I just left messages and spoke to one actual nice person. It takes 5 minutes.
We (Books Are Magic) started our Melt the Guns campaign with Carson Ellis many many years ago, and have raised probably $50,000 for Everytown for Gun Safety. It helps to feel like you’re doing something, and what we are good at is making stuff and so this week we asked Carson if she’d like to do a spin-off, and here it is. All the money is going (via Stand with Minnesota and Unidos MN) to local orgs on the ground in Minnesota. You can pre-order here. (Yes, we ship! Unisex sizing! I’m a size ten and I like a baggy large.) It doesn’t cure fear or heartbreak but doing nothing feels a thousand times worse.
Some folks I know who work in publishing have put together an amazing fundraiser auction, with some VERY good items—an AMA zoom with Samantha Irby? Some original paper art from Lorraine Nam? A zoom with publicist-to-the-stars Michael Taeckens! TRULY great stuff, get in there! All the money going to great places in MN.
The most heartbreaking thing I’ve read this week is from writer and artist Kristen Radtke, who wrote about her childhood friend, Alex Pretti. Read it and get ready to cry. And then cry.
Love to all.

Thank you from Minneapolis! Thank you for speaking up, taking action, and inviting others to do the same. We desperately need people from all over the country to fully understand what's happening here. It feels like a war. We all fear for our safety on a daily basis, even those of us who are not being hunted. But I am in love with my city and we get stronger every day -- especially when people from afar show us their support. We will keep on loving and taking care of each other. The THANK YOU for your help!!!!
Just a Minnesota reader here to say thank you so much!!!
