More Dates Parties Laughing Novel writing Phone calls People Quiet Art Fires Family dinners Old friends Old books Telling people how great they are Being outdoors
Less Worrying about what other people think Worrying that other people are mad at me Screens (in general) Instagram (in particular) Internet shopping carts Wasting time Festering Not saying what I mean
What do you want more of in 2024? What are you trying to leave behind? I could also do a list like this for The Gilded Age, but it would just be MORE and no LESS. (More shirtless Mr. Russell, more kissing, more battles over opera houses, more dinner party subterfuge, more Robert Sean Leonard's perfect face, I still have a few episodes left in season 2, don't tell me what happens.) (Also, I know I said less instagram, but that's where I learned that in real life Mr. Russell is married to Rebecca Hall (double swoon)). I love it all too much! And my friend Celia is adorable and every time she's on the screen I think, that's my friend! Celia please don't pay attention to be talking about how good-looking your co-stars are, just look away!
Happy new year to all, or happy Joey McIntyre's birthday, if you celebrate that. (You know I do.) Here’s a Lucille Clifton poem that I always am happy to see pop up around the new year. Cheers to 2024.
i am running into a new year By Lucille Clifton i am running into a new year and the old years blow back like a wind that i catch in my hair like strong fingers like all my old promises and it will be hard to let go of what i said to myself about myself when i was sixteen and twenty-six and thirty-six even thirty-six but i am running into a new year and i beg what i love and i leave to forgive me
More Emma!!
I loved your idea and your list of More. Thank you.
I was so delighted by the Clifton poem that I am going to use it as the poem I traditionally send along with a favorite recipe from the past year and a New Years greeting to send to friends. This year for the first time in twelve that letter will be written and illustrated with photos from 2023 by my husband rather than me. A nice turn about.
