Hi friends!
I never thought I’d be so happy for it to be February. February! Obviously the very worst month! But yesterday, one of my kids and I left an appointment at 5 o’clock and it was still light out and I felt like I had just escaped a cave. (Did you see the video of this guy sliding into a cave? I’m sure there are exciting things in caves, fossils and whatnot, but you are not going to catch me sliding to my doom in a narrow crevasse. I’ve seen movies.)
Mostly I’ve been signing pieces of paper. Right now I think I’m going to be signing pieces of paper forever. There are just so many. My friend Emily Mandel said to just watch television while I do it, and the beautiful and brilliant Sophie Blackall said specifically to watch a show called Poldark, which looks this this, and so I get it. (I believe that the woman in this photo is painting dirt onto this man’s muscles, which doesn’t sound like a terrible gig.)
If only Starstruck Season Two was out already! Here is the trailer, if you haven’t seen it, and if you haven’t watched Season One yet, boy oh boy, are you in for a treat.
Okay, I guess I have been watching a lot of television, because it’s all I can think to write about. My backlist reading program has been…iffy, honestly. I’ve put down two books so far! Which I don’t feel guilty about, but I do feel disappointed by. (These were self-chosen, not recommended by friends or readers, just to be clear, so maybe it’s my picker that’s gone wonky.) Anyhoo, this season of Queer Eye is perfection, truly top tier quality tear-jerking goodness, and so maybe that’s plenty for right now.
But I promised you a special guest! And so you shall have one. My friend and fave romance writer Jasmine Guillory popped into the store a little while ago, and we sat on the bench outside and had a conversation and it was just delightful. Friends, you know?! Friends are good. Anyway, know Jasmine, love Jasmine, read Jasmine, subscribe to Jasmine’s very excellent newsletter. (Pre-order Jasmine.) And see below for her very relatable time travel wishes.
I would like to go to a teahouse. That sounds really nice. But yes, god, I have so many photos of myself scowling somewhere beautiful with my parents. Teens! So bad. Teens are so bad.
I don’t mean that. I actually love teenagers. So much so that now whenever he sees a clump of teenage girls, my 6 year old says, “Mama, it’s your dream.” Because I love those surly mofos more than anything.
What about you? Vacation you’d want to re-do? Either because it was so terrible the first time or because it was so wonderful? Tell me.
Love Jasmine!
