Everything I Bought Before, During, and After Surgery
Ok not during, exactly, but while wearing a hospital gown and grippy socks
A new package of my favorite toothbrushes. (This is what I ordered while wearing a hospital gown.) Why buy one toothbrush when you can buy a box of gay pride toothbrushes??!! Love is love and these are the best toothbrushes, full stop.
A new bathmat from my girls at Blockshop.
New stationary, because I used most of mine up writing thank you notes after my birthday. Papier is my jam. My handwriting is terrible and so I like to think it helps to have my name on things, because then at least whoever is reading it knows who it’s from.
(Yes, writing this from bed with my emotional support water bottle and eye mask.)
A new (to me) Rachel Comey jumpsuit from the Real Real. Here I am wearing it in my new author photo! Taken last week by the very lovely Alpha Smoot!
Things I Didn’t Buy, unless you count the money I spent on the surgery and the hospital yadda yada, But Would Have Paid Extra For:
Every person who has had a baby in a hospital knows the joy of the stretchy disposable underwear. I’ve missed them! And now that my preferred underwear company (RIP ARQ! I miss you!) is out of business, maybe I just need to shift to these. Not remotely kidding.
A stretchy cummerbund-type thing, like a weight-lifting belt, to wrap around my mid-section. Not to brag but mine was made by the cute guy from Stranger Things who is now a rock star.
Thanks to so many of you for sharing such personal things on my last post—it really is astonishing how many of us share these afflictions. I’ve heard from so many friends who I didn’t know were suffering in the same way. I think the idea is—let’s all complain a little bit more? Or commiserate? Sending love and gratitude to you all. It hurts to stand up but I’ve got good drugs. Please send recs of things for me to watch in the next few days, my brain is too dopey to read.
I hope you heal without any chaos! As a Canadian I have to recommend watching North of North, which was just released on Netflix and is an absolutely fantastic sitcom set in an Inuit community in the far north with a loveably flawed protagonist and a bunch of delightful, quirky side characters. Also the absolute best (worst!) bad date scene I've ever seen on television.
If you haven't watched The Residence (Netflix) yet, it is a delight.
