I saw somewhere that A*#$on P$#@e Day is coming up, so I thought now might be a great time to give people some other things to click on. Will these save you money? No! But will you be supporting people and places that aren’t evil? Yes! Let’s proceed.
These are the best toothbrushes. My dentist gave me this one yesterday at my cleaning, so it’s literally dentist approved, but also, look at it! It’s yellow AND orange! And you can get it in a million colors if those aren’t your bag. Chic teeth! Get on it. They also sell them at City Chemist if you’re a local! (To me. Check your local places if you are local to yourself.)
This stuff feels like very expensive Vaseline, and I mean that as a compliment. It is THICK and it is GLOSSY and I use it every day and it makes me feel as soft as a newborn babe. You can get it as Rescue, which is also the place to go if you want a facial that costs more money than you ever thought you would spend on a facial but you’re over 40 so every now and then it seems like a good investment because you don’t plan to get Botox or a facelift or whatever the cast of Friends did to themselves. Also I know from Instagram that my homegirl Alison Roman uses it too. So you know it works, because Alison does not mess around.
Can you sleep? Me neither! But this helps. I listen to audiobooks while I fall asleep, or when a child wakes me up in the middle of the night and I can’t fall back asleep, and this Manta sleeping mask is great. I’ve used their regular mask for years (my children have now stolen it) but just last week I upgraded to this baby, which has built in speakers that aren’t too bumpy on your ears. The picture is upside down, forgive me. You know what masks look like, and where your nose is in relation to your eyeballs.
If you’ve seen me in person in the last year, I was probably wearing my phone on a cord that looks like it was made by an industrious 7 year old, or a kooky preschool teacher. It wasn’t! It was made by Ina Siefart, and you should get one too. They do not all look as ridiculous as mine. Hands-free 4 life.
Books! The last few weeks have been absolutely bonkers for books. The Soup of Doom! New Sophie Blackall, If I Was a Horse! My friend Ariel Djanikian’s new novel, The Prospectors! Literally thousands of amazing new books. And you know where you should get them? At any local bookstore. Or at the library. Just not the bad place.
Happy shopping!
I read this and then walked a few blocks to where my fav used bookstore - The Book Deal - is moving (in Madison, WI). I am helping alphabetize the books before it opens next week. And I come across one of your dad's books (I took a picture) - Houses Without Doors!! https://thebookdeal.com/about/
Thank you for this Newsletter; it touches on everything human and is pure delight.
I am obsessed with that sleep mask.
