I read this and then walked a few blocks to where my fav used bookstore - The Book Deal - is moving (in Madison, WI). I am helping alphabetize the books before it opens next week. And I come across one of your dad's books (I took a picture) - Houses Without Doors!! https://thebookdeal.com/about/

Thank you for this Newsletter; it touches on everything human and is pure delight.

Amazon Prime Day, wasn't trying to be mysterious!

Oh geez! I’ve been trying to avoid the messaging, too, and now I’m laughing for a lot of reasons but mostly at myself!

Emma, I know you didn't write it out like that for this reason, but I actually have a filter on my Gmail to send all emails that contain the phrase "P$#@e Day" directly to the trash (publicists send an astonishing amount of email about this day and Black Friday). Delighted that yours wasn't sent there too.

Intrigued by the mask but haven’t quite figured out how falling asleep to audio book would work if you can’t easily remember at what point you fell asleep!

I use the 15 minutes option on Libby - makes it easy to find my place, and most of the time I fall asleep during that time. If not, it‘s another 15 minutes. Audio books I am loving: "Our Souls at Night" by Kent Haruf, anything by Elizabeth Strout (Kimberly Farr is such an excellent, excellent narrator), Bryan Washington‘s "Memorial", especially the parts read by Akie Kotabe.

I will admit here deep in the comments that I tend to listen to audiobooks (at this time of day) where I sort of don't care about losing my place. I don't listen to novels at night. Non-fiction is better for this, but yes, I set a timer too! So you don't miss much.
