How neat the Internet experience can be! I’ve adored Kim Addonizio’s poems for several years and she mentions her daughter in more than one. To see the two of them mentioned in your newsletter is a wonderful bonus. And off the movie theme but staying with poetry, Addonizio’s “What Do Women Want?” is a particular favourite.
I love Himesh so much! He's wildly gifted. If I could cast him in every show I do--I would find a way. And he's so spot on. I dated Michael Bay's first AD a lifetime ago. (Ghaaaagh! What was I thinking?) He and Himesh could be doppelgangsters 😂
For anyone who's worked on a set, especially as an AD (I had Lolly Adefope's job), The Franchise is achingly hilarious -- at times, it ignites a mild PTSD with the endless emergencies! I love the entire cast!
I am so enjoying your Substack, Emma (big fan of All Adults Here and your Dad’s books were part of my childhood bookshelves) — I thoroughly enjoyed the charmer that is Yesterday but oh my goodness, I LOVED Station Eleven. I adored the novel so much that I was leery of the adaptation but it was beautifully done. So nuanced and haunting. And Himesh Patel was wonderful in it of course so ok! The Franchise! 📝 ✅
Looking forward to watching it. I loved Yesterday (not least because it features my home-county of Suffolk, England and always makes me feel nostalgic).
Thanks for the recs!! You might need to add The English Teacher (with Julianne Moore & Greg Kinnear) to your sick-in-bed list!

It doesn’t matter what I watch on an airplane, will always cry. Always.
It’s the altitude. At least that’s what I tell myself.
That's what they say!

That sounds like a very, very awful job.
