My children are finally (finally!!!!!!) back in school. In related news, I am very much looking forward to getting back to work but in the meantime I have utterly lost my marbles and have been buying myself presents in order to make myself feel better. Maybe you need presents too! Here are all the things I have bought myself lately.
Sabahs are easy and chic and feel sort of like fancy slippers and I have them in two colors and maybe you need a pair too.
I love Rachel Comey but I don’t always love Rachel Comey prices and I really don’t love walking into Rachel Comey and asking for something in my size and having a beautiful person frown at me and say alas, we only have size 2, so lately most of my RC clothes come to me via The Real Real. My sizes are saved and my favorite designers are saved and I just bought this exact sweatshirt and I’ve worn it every day since. My husband said, you look like a mom at (our children’s school.) It was definitely not a compliment but he’s also not wrong, I saw another mom wearing one this morning. Ah well. So be it. If you too would like to look like a Brooklyn cliche, have at it! We can be twins.
Last week, I was at my friend Darby’s perfect vintage clothing store in Kingston, NY, and trying on lots of things and I needed a t-shirt so quickly grabbed one that was hanging nearby and long story short that t-shirt and I are now in a very serious committed relationship. I got it at Lovefield, but it’s from Le Bon Shoppe, and you can also get them straight from the website too. Here’s what I love about it—it’s not too long! It’s not too short! It’s a good golden yellow and feels both heavy-duty and soft. It’s not easy to find a great t-shirt, and this is one.
Also last week, on the anniversary of my dad’s death, I forced my family to go to Woodbury Common Outlet with me, and there, like I was being directed by one of those water-divining rods, I stumbled upon a Loro Piana cashmere coat that cost more money than I have ever spent on a single item of clothing in my life. It was FIFTY percent off the sale price, and more than fifty percent off it’s actual retail price, and when I tell you that my father would have approved of this purchase, I mean it with every penny. Cool down, weather, I am ready for you.
Happy back to school, all.
Your dad definitely sent you that coat ❤️
Thank you for your beautiful newsletter! Each time it feels like reading a letter from a friend, and every time you mention your Dad I cry (or almost cry!) because I lost my dad earlier this year, and you say everything I feel.
